Kaya Collaborative is sending its first corps of fellows, including two Seattle University students, to the Philippines this June.

Kaya Collaborative is a start-up non-profit headed by members of Brown and Harvard University. The non-profit organization aims to engage communities of the Filipino diaspora worldwide, connecting them to fuel internal Philippine development in the face of circumstantial hardship and infrastructural challenges.

They’ve created fellowships for 12 Filipino American young scholars from colleges across the United States, including two from Seattle University, to travel to Manila this summer 2014. Members will spend 10 weeks in the country, working with established social ventures, participating in a social justice/innovation curriculum, and collaboratively designing ways to link our Philippine diaspora to social development.

Kaya Collaborative’s fundraising dinner is to occur on May 21 at Bullitt Center in Seattle.

During the dinner event, there will be a presentation and a Q&A session with Kaya Seattle members. All proceeds will go to the forming of their first Kaya Corps.
