El Centro de la Raza is a voice and a hub for Seattle and King County’s Latino community. Through its comprehensive programs and services, El Centro de la Raza works to raise awareness with the general public, government, businesses, and civic leaders about the needs of the Chicano/Latino community.
El Centro de la Raza celebrates its Annual Cinco de Mayo event on Saturday, May 7 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Community Center (3801 Beacon Ave S). Every year the organization celebrates its rich Mexican heritage with live music, entertainment, raffle prizes, children’s activities, craft and informational booths and traditional Mexican foods for sale. The Baile/Dance happens from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
This year’s live entertainment features performances by Seattle Fandango Project, 4 En La Mira (Grupo Norteño), Chief Sealth Mariachi/Dance Group, Associacion de Charros, Desfile Cultural by the José Martí Child Development Center showcasing cultural attire, Folklore Mexicano Tonantzin, DJ Sonido Impacto and El Rey 1360AM.
“Cinco de Mayo is an opportunity for us to share our rich Mexican heritage as we celebrate alongside the diverse communities of Seattle,” said El Centro de la Raza executive director Estela Ortega in a statement.
