“Family dinner with the IE”
The International Examiner’s 18th Annual Community Voice Awards Dinner & Benefit takes place the evening of Wednesday, May 21 at Jumbo Restaurant in Seattle. This year’s event will be co-hosted by Q13 Fox News’ Lily Jang and King 5’s Robert Mak and includes a silent auction, live dessert auction and fun!

The International Examiner’s CVA dinner is the premier event of May's Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. This year’s award nominees are:

• Velma Veloria: The first Filipina elected to a state legislature. A lifetime advocate for immigrants and laborers, Velma served 12 years as State Representative for South Seattle’s 11th District.

• Roger Shimomura: Roger's paintings, prints, and theatre pieces address sociopolitical issues of Asian America and have often been inspired by diaries kept by his late immigrant grandmother.

• Many Uch: Nominee for the IE’s Tatsuo Nakata Young Leadership Award, Many has been active in immigration and deportation issues.

• APALA: Founded in 1992, the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, AFL-CIO, is the first and only national organization of APA union members developed to protect workers’ rights.
