Chinese Hotel Workers Blast Hyatt

Editor’s Note: During a recent three-day strike outside the Grand Hyatt hotel in San Francisco, nearly half of the protesters were Chinese immigrants. Many of them work as room cleaners and food servers in local hotels. But a new contract would make them pay for their own health insurance. They say health insurance should be provided for them and their families, and cover any injuries they may suffer on the job.

Welcome to America, where you have to actually pay for things like health insurance. Unless a health insurance package has been negoiated as part of your compensation for working at the hotel, pay up! You don’t like it, head on back to China. For what you’re making at that hotel, I’ll take your job and happily pay for health insurance. Besides, can’t you just take the identity of one of your family members in this country legally and use it to get free health care from the state of California? Don’t know how? Go ask one of the buh zillion other immigrants how they’re doing it.
